- Tito Mboweni visited a township over the weekend to dine at one of the restaurants there
- Although many applauded the minister for supporting local businesses, others once again focused on his shoes
- Mboweni rocked a new pair of kicks that looked a lot like Toughees school shoes
On Sunday, Tito Mboweni supported a township restaurant and he took to Twitter to share photos of the day.
The Minister of Finance captioned the post:
"So this is how it started. Lunch at Muyi Restaurant in NkowaNkowa Township. Practical support for the 'township economy'. Myself, Thembi, Nonceba and Ngoako. February 16, 2020."
While many applauded Mboweni's support of the local economy, the minister knew others would focus on something different - his shoes.
In another post, Mboweni told South Africans to "Say something about the shoes!"
He did not have to ask Mzansi twice and social media users flooded the comment section with their views on Mboweni's new pair of kicks.
Social media user, @KhayeNgema, commented:
"Those shoes last you more than two decades."
Another tweep, @ThAbokM, wrote:
"Toughees school shoes."
Twitter user, @hloni_divine, added:
"Your shoe game is improving minister."
With his shoes now on point, Mboweni had to defend his choice of clothing. Briefly.co.za reported over the weekend that minister defended his SONA suit after he got roasted online.
