Skeem Saam’s Pebetsi Matlaila has found herself in some hot water with her former domestic worker. Word has it that the matter has been taken to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation, and Arbitration (CCMA).
It is by no means easy to dismiss someone in South Africa. The rigid labour legislation makes it hard to dismiss someone fairly unless all procedures for the dismissal have been followed correctly.
Briefly.co.za learnt that Pebetsi is having to appear in court following a claim of unfair dismissal made by her former domestic worker.
According to Pebetsi she made the decision to let her former domestic worker go after she noticed behaviours that made her feel uneasy just a month after employing her.
Pebetsi said that her former domestic worker asked for an advance on her pay check after her first month working for her and then started acting strange. It was after this that Pebetsi decided it was best for both of them that she terminated employment.
Taking to social media, Pebetsio explained ow upset she was that she had been taken to the CCMA and accused of unfair dismissal when that was not her intention at all.
It is hard to have someone in your home when you do not trust their character and are unsettled by their actions. Pebetsi is completely shocked by the whole situation.
