Speaking to the Daily Nation, the philanthropist confided how prayers from friends helped him in his time of need and that he had learned so much from the experience.

According to Kirubi he always believed in God but halfheartedly.

Being confined to a sickbed for long periods of time made him realise he was beyond ordinary help. That was when he opened himself up to the full glory of God.

"I'm closer to God now because I have believed that without God's will I would not be who I am today. It took me many months lying in bed while sick to believe that God is the most powerful," he said.

During the interview, Kirubi said it was a shame that human beings usually run to God in their time of need instead of having a stable and continuous relationship.

The 79-year-old is the founder and owner of various companies in Africa.

Despite old age, not being married and being sickly, Kirubi said he was building a dream home for himself.
