Halala: Local chefs make South Africa proud with international wins

A few local chefs have made South Africa proud recently. The culinary specialists scooped three bronze medals at the IKA Culinary Olympics. The Department of Tourism took to social media to congratulate the group.

The department posted a glowing report of how well the chefs did on their Twitter page.

"You have made #SouthAfrica beyond proud! You went out there and gave it your all."

The culinary team won three bronze medals for the IKA Chefs' Table, the Restaurant of Nations and the sugar-work piece by Chef Nicolas van der Walt.

Briefly.co.za gathered that the victorious group will be returning to the country on Saturday, 22 February at 8:45am at OR Tambo Arrivals Terminal A.

Meanwhile, Briefly.co.za previously reported that Fikile Zungu, who hails from Soweto, was a cleaner for 10 years. Through hard work and a little bit of luck, she reached for the stars and landed a job as a culinary chef. Her appetising meals won the heart of the South African Ambassador in Belgium, who insisted Fikile become his official cook. Her rags-to-riches story can be seen as an inspiration to many.
