On Tuesday, residents vowed to shut Soweto down with protests over the high electricity rates - a move many social media uses found ironic seeing as though the township has the highest unpaid bills at Eskom.
Regardless, South Africans readied themselves for one hell of a protest, but to their dismay it appeared the #SowetoShutdown has been rather chilled.

Earlier, Briefly.co.za reported the Soweto shutdown began on Tuesday morning as frustrated residents took to the streets, and despite the slow start to the protest action, law enforcement officials have been deployed to the scene.
The protests are expected to continue on Wednesday when Finance Minister Tito Mboweni is expected to deliver his 2020 Budget Speech.
