A social media model with Twitter name @elimieralanegra has started a conversation about her dark skin and a broader discourse about racism in the modelling industry.
The beautiful model evoked massive support from followers on her Twitter thread when she shared her experience as a dark skin model.
Following her tweet, people sent both motivational messages and messages condemning the stereotyping and discrimination against her.
The modelling industry can be a pretty harsh space for dark-skinned models not just because of the rigorous beauty standards but also the discrimination most of them experience. Lighter skin is considered more desirable in the industry as a whole.

@elimieralanegra indicated that her skin colour became a subject when she posted the following:
"Appreciation post for myself because the 4th modelling agency this week told me they were no longer in need of darker-skinned models atm & not making height exceptions at the time.''
@elimieralanegra, who has also been inspiring people to embrace their differences, has won the internet with her beautiful pictures.
''Their loss, the fashion/modelling industry is racist and only interested in tokenism. You don't need me to tell you how beautiful you are but push on follow your dream,'' @Jason50795366 said in response to @elimieralanegra's tweet.
" 'No longer in need of darker-skinned models atm" - that basically sums up modelling agencies. They hire people of colour simply so they're not accused of being undiverse when they should be appreciating the fact that this lady is absolutely gorgeous,''@Isabel_394 also said.
@rizneige wrote: ''When it has been said darkskin is a trend on the internet and a business. So mad for you girl, you're beautiful Heart suit Remember when some thought you were doing blackface omg. All my blessings.''
