Mzansi musician Tellaman has started a YouTube channel where he shares his raw and real self with fans.

A lot of celebs put on a façade portraying a false image of themselves and their lives to the public. Tellaman is not about that life, he wants people to know the truth about him, inside and out.

Briefly.co.za learnt that Tellaman created the YouTube channel as a way to connect with fans on a deeper level, allowing them to understand him as a human being, not just a celeb.

In a recent Instagram post, Tellaman explained how when he was starting out he thought his improvised upbringing would get him a foot in the door.

The musician thought that if record labels knew about his struggles, they would feel sorry for him and give him a chance – he quickly learnt that that was not the case and that people were interested in him because he was good at what he did, not because he was raised in poverty.

Thanks to a fan from Namibia, Tellaman was able to change his mindset and believe in himself. The fan reached out at a time Tellaman needed it the most, and for that, he is forever grateful.

Growing up in poverty left Tellaman with very little belief in himself and his ability to amount to anything. Pushing past this block is something he hopes many other kids growing up in poverty will be able to do, and he hopes his story will make an impact.

“I understand that all of us go through something like that at some point in our lives and I know that where I come from there's a lot of kids that are going through the same thing I went through when I was little. And they truly believe that it's impossible for them to change their situation because of the situation they are in now.”

Telling his story, despite the reservations he had, is something Tellaman now feels proud of. You are only defined by your circumstances if you give in and let them define you!
