There is a debate trending on Twitter at the moment and the topic is young actors versus established actors.
It all began when a well-known scriptwriter gave her opinion on the abuse she feels young actresses endure from those who have been in the business a long time. She described the abuse as shocking. Actresses Rami Chuene, Zenande Mfenyana and Nokuthula Mavuso have also shared the feelings on the topic.
Briefly.co.za learnt that there was a tweet from Phathu Makwarela which indicated that should young actresses that are climbing the ladder, open up about the abuse they received from experienced actresses, whom we all hold in high regard, we’ll have no one to stan. He also commented that some of those people we idolise will not take imminent retirement too well.
Speaking from personal experience, Rami, a veteran actress, shared her views with regards to this. She said that she does not have time to fight with the youngsters and as far as she is concerned if they are willing to learn the ropes then she is more than prepared to help them accomplish their dreams.
Rami went on to say that she does time for those who just want the limelight and fame. It also does not gel with her if they come to work unprepared and stand there with a mouth full of teeth and blank faces. Rami said she is over 40 and certainly is not going to waste her time fighting with a 25-year-old!
Someone who has experienced abuse first hand is Zenande. She plays the role of Goodness Mabuza on The Queen. Zenande said that she is not ready to reveal her experiences just yet as she does not have the courage to speak about it openly, but when she is, she will tell her story. She did say that the abuse from older to younger actresses has got to stop.
Abomama actress Nokuthula Mavuso voiced her opinion and said that the young actors have to be held accountable for their actions. She said that she knows of a young actress who constantly wasted everyone’s time by arriving on set unprepared.
