It was a clash of the titans as Mamelodi Sundowns took the field against Egyptian team Al Ahly. Both teams knew that it would be a tough match. In the end, the Brazilians did not do enough.

It was indeed a difficult contest with the teams fairly evenly matched, however, on paper the Sundowns looked to be the better team.

With 15 shots on goal compared to Al Ahly's 11, the Brazilians were getting the ball in the right place more often. More importantly, almost half the Sundowns shots were on goal.

Briefly.co.za saw that the Sundowns dominated possession with 66% and made an incredible 526 passes compared to Al Ahly's 289 passes.

It doesn't matter how many passes you make if they don't go where they are supposed to. The Sundowns pass accuracy was an impressive 79% compared to Al Ahly's 67%.

The Egyptian team committed 15 fouls compared to Sundowns' 8. Both teams got 1 yellow card. The Egyptians had 3 offsides compared to the Sundowns 1. The Brazilians had 8 corners, the Egyptians none.

The stats paint a clear picture, the Sundowns dominated the game but were unable to convert the chances into goals during the match.

Had they capitalised on their performance they may have been able to take the win.
