The split of actors Mona and Khulu Skenjana is proof that things aren't always as they seem. The couple always displayed a united front to the world, especially after the loss of their second-born child, but apparently the cracks were hard to see.

Mona took to Twitter to announce the separation, acknowledging that this will come as a shock to many but still asking for her followers to continue to believe in love and family

"My husband and I have parted ways. I know this will come as a shock to many and I ask that you continue to believe in love and family. The battles we have met have been difficult to overcome together and I ask that you respect us by not sensationalising our separation," she wrote.

Late last year, Briefly.co.za reported the couple faced one of the most soul-destroying things that could ever happen to a person; they watched their home burn down. The Skenjanas also lost the ashes of their child in the fire.

Mona also asked for the media to not sensationalise the couple's separation. Twitter seemed to respond with a lot of consideration and love.

@PrinceXXII: "You guys made some of us believe in this marriage thing. Thanks for all the inspirations and all the best to both of you."
@Mazwi_Nx: "What must, will. Love and light."
@khomoKhuzwayo: "Oh bathong sorry sesi... I hope you well. How I loved you together... sending you some love."
