- The 34-year-old wonder woman was elected as Prime Minister of Finland at the age of 34
- Marin only got into politics at the age of 27
Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin is the youngest serving head of state in the world.
At the tender age of 34, Marin was elected after previous prime minister Antti Rinne received heavy criticism.
Many questioned his approach in dealing with a postal strike last year and he eventually resigned in December 2019.
Business Insider reported that Marin only entered into politics at the age of 27 and an MP at 30.
Following the debacle with Rinne, Reuters reported that the Social Democratic Party elected her as the new head.
Briefly.co.za learnt that Marin grew up in the city of Tampere and was raised by same-sex parents.
Business Insider reported that her upbringing had a huge influence on her political stance.
She revealed, "For me, people have always been equal. It's not a matter of opinion. That's the foundation for everything."
Marin studied Administrative Sciences at the University of Tampere and became head of the city administration in 2012.
She served as the Transport and Communications Minister for six months last year until her elevation into the presidential hotseat.
In other presidential news, UK prime minister Boris Johnson and his partner Carrie Symonds are expecting their first child.
The couple have since decided to tie the knot in the near future.
