Covid-19: SA's Confirmed cases jump to 240 up 38 from yesterday

- The number of confirmed cases has jumped to 240

- This is an increase of 38, the majority in Gauteng and the Western Cape

- 2 patients have recovered from the virus

The number of confirmed cases has jumped in South Africa from 202 to 240, with the Eastern Cape reporting its first case, a 28-year-old female who travelled to Germany, where she contracted the virus.

So far South Africa has 240 confirmed cases and 2 people have recovered. The first two South Africans to be confirmed cases of the coronavirus have finally been allowed to return home.

TimesLIVE reports that KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala welcomed the news that the 38-year-old Hilton man and his wife were released.

Both had been kept in isolation after contracting the virus during a holiday to Italy with a group of colleagues.

Speaking during the first meeting of the KZN command team, Zikalala said the news of the couple's recovery 'signalled hope amid the despair and gloom':

“This development (the recuperation of the first two patients) inspires hope in line with KZN's coronavirus battle mantra 'Siyayinqoba (We will conquer) the coronavirus pandemic'.
