SA reacts to Cyril Ramaphosa’s 21-day lockdown: “You are appreciated”

- President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered a special address on Monday in light of the Covid-19 threat

- Ramaphosa announced a 21-day lockdown and mentioned some other interesting measures that will be put in place

- For the most part, the announcement was well received by the South African public

The world has never experienced anything quite like the coronavirus.

The virus has already ravaged numerous countries and was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation.

As a result, South Africa needed to act swiftly and President Ramaphosa did just that in a special address to the nation on Monday evening.

The key announcement was that South Africa would experience an enforced 21-day lockdown, commencing from Thursday evening.

Ramaphosa shared numerous other important announcements as well.

The encouraging part is that government has strongly considered the impact on the economy and will be introducing various measures to help business and the South African citizens. earlier reported on the news that the Opperheimer and Rupert families will each donate R1-billion to the cause.

South Africans have taken to social media to share their views on the subject. surveyed the reactions and the general consensus is a very positive one. For the most part, citizens expressed admiration for Ramaphosa's thoughtful and decisive approach.

"This is comprehensive plan. I know there will be lots of questions but this is an impressive action by the government. I must applaud them. But now let’s play our part South Africa."

"May God give you strength to carry this load on your shoulders Mr President. Many announcements were made and we are still irresponsible and will put the blame on you. We are still attending weddings and going to the malls despite everything."
