Panyaza Lesufi has visited a site where approximately 400 homeless people have been housed in temporary shelters in Pretoria West.

Yusuf Abramjee posted a couple of pictures on social media of the shelter which was set up on the grounds of what appears to be a school.

He captioned the post with the following message:

"Some 400 homeless are in temporary shelters here in Pretoria West. @Lesufi has arrived to inspect the site. @OperationSA1 @SANZAFSA #OperationCovid19Fund"

30 schools with hostel facilities have been identified to help house homeless citizens during the 21-day lockdown.

Lesufi explained that the provincial government wiould be diverting resources in a bid to bolster social services support to those in need by utilising existing school infrastructure.

In a display of solidarity despite political differences, Bantu Holimisa praised Lesufi for his efforts, showing South African politicians have our best interests at heart during this time of crisis.

Social media users were pleased with the efforts the government has made and praised them for showing the world that South Africa is not a third world country and can look after our most vulnerable.

@InfoSthembiso: South Africa is not third world country, Covid 19 has showed us that given all the interventions.
@goolammv: Brilliant effort.
@MichelleMaivha: I'm with you on this one.
@Smart4x4Chick: These tents are so much better than the ones @CityofCT has set up for the homeless. At least people can stand up in these ones #CoronaVirusSA #TreatTheHomelessWithDignity

However, other users raised some concerns over the situation:

@MdakaZak: Do we really need coronavirus to force us to have ubuntu again? This virus exposes lots of things.
@Allan_2801: Oooh wow, so you mean to tell me that there has always been a solution for the homeless and it had to take a virus to know that.
@PigSpotter: They must all share bathrooms? Isn't that defeating the purpose still? Surely each one should have had a portable lavatory next to their own shelter, and then take turns in using the shower areas, disinfecting between showers? I'd imagine that's safer?
