Jay Z and Rihanna have donated a million dollars each to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
The $1 million donations were made through their charity foundations.
Rihanna has already donated an even larger amount to the cause.
Last week, the beauty pledged $5 million to provide medical supplies to impoverished communities across the US, Caribbean and Africa through her Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF).
Now, she has made an additional $1 million donation to support non-profits in New York and Los Angeles, with Jay Z matching the amount through his Shawn Carter Foundation.
People Magazine reports that the emergency funds will be shared between communtiy upliftment organisations such as the Mayor’s Fund for L.A., Fund for Public Schools, American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the New York Immigration Coalition.
The funds are intended to support those disadvantaged the most by the coronavirus pandemic.
Shawn Carter is Jay Z's real name and the CEO and co-founder of the Shawn Carter Foundation is Gloria Carter, who's also Jay Z's mother.
In a media statement about the donation, Gloria said, “In times of crisis, it is imperative that we come together as one community to ensure that everyone, especially the most vulnerable, has access to critical needs: shelter, health, nutrition and education. The only way to get through this pandemic is with love and action.”
