Mzansi Songbird Zahara has emphasised that she was not drunk when she mumbled the national anthem.
She has denied the allegations doing the rounds on social media that she had one too many when she had her anthem moemish on Instagram Live.
When the award-winning singer mumbled the Afrikaans verse on the anthem, some social media users were quick to point out that she was "drunk".
She told TshisaLIVE that:
"My Instagram Live videos are always so lighthearted. I am always joking and was just having fun so I am alarmed with people saying these things. I did a lot of crazy things and no-one said anything. Someone asked me to sing the anthem and I decided to just have fun with it. I just wanted people to laugh at me struggling with the anthem, it wasn't meant to be disrespectful or a big issue."
She said she was hurt that people still portrayed her as a drunk.
"I don't drink, even though people around me do. I am not worried about it though, I will still continue with my Instagram Live videos."
Social media users thought Zahara had been hitting the bottle hard when she went live on Insta.
"Is she drunk or high or something."
"Here I was convinced that Zahara stopped drinking. Hayi maan maZaza khawuyeke."
"Alcohol and phone don't get along please someone take that phone."
While some people thought that Zahara was just having fun, some citizens accused the star of disrespecting the national anthem.
"@ZaharaSA how embarrassing to even disrespect the national anthem like that, sies!!"
"This is disrespectful!"
"Anthem is not a joke ,if u are drunk find something else that you can joke about."
