R&B singer R. Kelly will have to overcome his fears of contracting the coronavirus in jail after a federal judge denied him bail on Tuesday.

Peeps from the US were not fazed by the news that the star will remain behind bars amid the coronavirus pandemic, with one suggesting that he must compose new music while behind bars.

Forbes reports that Kelly submitted his bail request in March over fears of contracting the coronavirus behind bars.

U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly of Brooklyn, New York rejected Kelly’s request, citing his potential to be a flight risk and to intimidate or otherwise interfere with witnesses in his case, reports Forbes.

The Associated Press Federal reports that prosecutors said that prisons around the country have taken steps to prevent transmission of the virus, and that an inmate’s "generalised risk" of catching it does not justify their release.

Kelly is being held in Chicago’s Metropolitan Correctional Center where he awaits trial on federal child pornography, obstruction of justice and racketeering charges in Illinois, New York and Minnesota.

He has denied ever abusing anyone and has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Kelly has been trending on social media since he was denied bail.

@MRH_GLOBAL commented:

"He must pursue his music career behind bars, compose new material and perform for the inmates through his stay behind bars, for life in prison is a humbling experience that necessitate self introspection and reflection peacefully without destruction."

"Lmbo and rightly too. Stay home and prison is your home right now. Save young girls' lives."

"Guess R. Kelly will stay 'trapped in the closet' for now."
