Video shows neighbourhood singing national anthem during lockdown

On Friday, South Africa NOW shared a touching video on Facebook. The video was taken by an inspiring woman, Shelley Finch, at 8pm one night.

She explained that her neighbours united to sing the national anthem from their balconies. The clip quickly gathered over 435 000 views and inspired South Africans.

Social media users were unsurprisingly touched by the powerful video which has given South Africans hope.

Susan Peirone commented:

"Wow Sea Point that was and is very patriotic, what a proud moment."

Michelle Mason added:

"Thank you! This brought tears to my eyes for my country. So beautiful."

Ntuli Lisakhanya wrote:

"Singing in harmony, praying for the beautiful country."

Omar Douglas said:

"There is so much of goodness and good people in this lovely country of ours. Thank you so much for sharing."

Finch and a group of her friends started the initiative with the sole aim to help the less fortunate during these difficult times.

They have thus far raised R136 000 but still need more donations to reach the R200 000 target.

She wrote:

"We are crowdfunding to purchase Nurtiwell Nutritional Packs which comprise of 1kg Instant Porridge, 1kg Instant Shake, 1kg Thick Vegetable Soup and 1kg Soya Mince Stew. This pack provides an estimated 120 adult meals and costs R251.00 per pack. This is enough to feed one adult for a month or two children."
