Premier League football could return earlier than expected as the United Kingdom government appears to have given a directive to that order.

The English topflight has been inactive since early March following the outbreak of the coronavirus which has killed over 211 000 people since it broke out last December.

Although a few EPL stars caught the bug they did well to win the battle against Covid-19 within the period of their self-isolation.

The UK prime minister Boris Johnson was also not spared by the deadly virus, thankfully, the 55-year-old conquered the scourge.

According to The Mirror, the league organisers have been charged to get all football activities back and running "as soon as possible".

This is according to the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Secretary Oliver Dowden who revealed that discussions are ongoing over a return to action in order to "support the whole football community".

He told the House of Commons:

"I personally have been in talks with the Premier League with a view to getting football up and running as soon as possible in order to support the whole football community.”

Dutch League season became the first league in Europe to be cancelled after the Netherlands government announced there won't be any form of football activity until September.

It would also be recalled that the virus has forced a lot of competitions to be cancelled this summer - including the Olympic Games, Euro Championship and several other sporting activities.

Liverpool are on the brink of a first title for 30 years while there are still a host of other issues to be decided, including qualification for the Champions League and Europa League, relegation and the FA Cup.
