Boris thanked the medics at the NHS maternity for the exceptional work that enabled his fiancée to deliver safely.

"The Prime Minister and Ms Symonds are thrilled to announce the birth of a healthy baby boy at a London hospital earlier this morning. Both mother and baby are doing very well.
"The PM and Ms Symonds would like to thank the fantastic NHS maternity team," said the spokesperson as quoted by The Sun.

The news got many by surprise as Symonds was expected to give birth in the summer, though the date had not been confirmed.

This came barely days after the PM was discharged from St Thomas' Hospital in London following a period in intensive care after being diagnosed with the coronavirus.

The couple announced in February they were engaged to be married and were expecting a baby.
