- Lerato Sengadi has finally seen the end to a very long and heartbreaking battle of being acknowledged as HHP's lawful wife
- HHP's family refused to call her his wife and even stopped her from attending the funeral
- The Supreme Court made a final ruling stating that Lerato was indeed HHP’s lawful wife and is entitled to a portion of his estate
Lerato Sengadi has been through hell the past two years. Not only did she lose her husband, HHP, but she’s been in and out of court with his family, battling for her rights as his wife.
HHP’s passing came as a major shock that left a gaping hole in Mzansi’s hip-hop industry.
Briefly.co.za know how Lerato has been battling to get HHP’s family to see her as his customary wife – they refuse to accept it and have dragged her through an endless legal battle.
Lerato was barred from HHP’s funeral, his memorial and any other event his family was attending in honour of his life.
HHP’s family spokesperson made it clear that Lerato, at least to them, was not his lawful wife and they would never let that be the truth.
"I would like to put this matter to rest and categorically state on record that Ms Sengadi is not, and was never married to Jabulani. She is not his wife!"
Having nowhere else to turn, Lerato took the matter to High Court and won. However, despite her having won the battle and being named HHP’s lawful wife, Lerato hasn’t seen a cent from her late husband’s estate.
HHP’s family appealed and the hearing took place on 6 March this year, where, again, the The Supreme Court ruled in Lerato’s favour.
The Supreme Court made a final ruling stating that Lerato was indeed HHP’s lawful wife and is entitled to a portion of his estate.
Lerato is extremely relived that this nightmare is finally over and that her title as HHP’s wife is now undisputable.
Finally, Lerato will be able to lay a gravestone for her late husband and actually mourn his death.
