- Musician Benny Mayengani has stepped up to contribute food to the less fortunate during this trying time of the coronavirus pandemic
- The star took a video of the dozens of food packages that he delivered
- He said, as a celebrity, he sees it as his duty to help the community
Benny Mayengani has heeded the President Cyril Ramaphosa's call for us to help each other during this coronavirus crisis.
The singer has donated dozens of food parcels to those in need and has plans to donate more.
He posted a video of the food packages, which included maize meal and sugar among other things, to his Instagram account.
In a statement on his social media account, Mayengani said, "Being a role model, I have to rise to expectations when times like these strike unannounced. As celebrities, we are the hopes and mouthpieces of our communities and it's gestures like these that I use to appreciate their loyalty, undying support and encouragement in my career. I am what I am from their support through their hard-earned cash.
Benny revealed he is hoping to start a community upliftment foundation in the near future.
Other celebs to have stepped up to the plate in terms of donating include DJ Black Coffee and Thando Thabethe.
Last month, Briefly.co.za reported that Black Coffee gave a free concert to fans to lift their spirits during lockdown.
Last week, Thando Thabethe spent her weekend delivering food to the less fortunate.
