- South African social media users have opened up about unemployment
- Many graduates took to Twitter to share their thoughts
- Others used the trending topic as an opportunity to job hunt
Unemployment is a huge problem in the world and South Africa is no exception. The country has one of the highest unemployment figures globally. To make matters worse a large percentage of the unemployed are graduates. The disgruntled group recently took to social media to open up about the struggles of the job hunt.
The hashtag #GraduatedandUnemployed has been trending on social media. Twitter user Boss21Grind used the trending topic to look for a job:
"I have Bcom degree in Business Management and Higher Certificate in Logistics and Supply Chain Management. Looking for any vacancy available."
Twitter user thatpedi_girl used the chance to open up:
"Yoh, story of my life. It's been over a year being unemployed. My mom breathes down my neck like being unemployed is my fault. Those who got jobs, consider yourself lucky even if you're not fully satisfied with your employer cause it's rough outside."
"This hashtag is the very reason I found it so hard to be excited for grad, I mean it’s GREAT to finish school, but the aftermath is potentially horrid."
"#GraduatedAndUnemployed sometimes you gotta put your qualifications aside and hustle like a drop-out... Pride won't pay bills."
"This is one of the saddest realities #GraduatedAndUnemployed."
