Brilliant African student wins graduate award at a top US university

- A Ghanaian student at Illinois State University has been named the Outstanding Graduate Student by the university.

Divine Narkotey Aboagye, a Ghanaian student of the Graduate Faculty of Illinois State University’s (ISU) School of Communication has been adjudged Outstanding Graduate Student by the university.

Briefly.co.za gathered that the graduate student award is given annually to acknowledge a student who has shown unmatched excellence in teaching, research and service.

Divine graduated from the University of Cape Coast (UCC) with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies (First Class Honors) and minor in Philosophy and English Studies in 2016.

''I graduated from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana with a BA Communication Studies (First Class Honors) and minor in Philosophy and English Studies. Currently, I am a second year master's student specializing in rhetorical studies,'' Narkotey Aboagye said in a statement on the university’s website.

Having chalked a remarkable feat, the young Ghanaian student who is currently serving as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the Illinois State University took to social media to celebrate and express appreciation for the support he received from colleagues.

"I am very grateful to all my Professors — Dr. Zompetti, Dr. Simonds, Dr. Baldwin, Dr. Chidester, Dr. Meyer, Dr. Miller-Ott."
"I will continue to cherish the moments we had all the days of my life...Everyone in the graduate program. I feel so honored to have worked with you all,'' parts of his remarks on Facebook said.

The brilliant Ghanaian student is currently a second-year Master's of Science in Communication student specialising in rhetorical studies.

Narkotey Aboagye’s research interests and areas include Rhetorical Theory, U.S. Presidential and Transnational Political Rhetoric, Critical Cultural Studies, Neo-Marxism, Psychoanalysis, Afrocentricism and Communication Pedagogy.
