- Mzansi soapie lovers are heartbroken that The River has gone on a production break
- The show ran out of episodes due to lockdown
- However, it appears filming has started again since the show will be back on air in two weeks
Mzansi soapie lovers are up in arms about The River being off air for the next two weeks.
The show's head scriptwriter, Phathu Makwarela, announced the break on Twitter.
He wrote, "We'll be off air for the next two weeks due to Covid-19. We love you and we'll miss you. Stay safe and we'll be back soonest."
Fans have met the news with a lot of complaints.
Diego Chuene said, "Hit a like if you're going to miss The River."
Kanyisa Ntshongwana said, "I will miss this team."
Other much-loved DStv soapies to have run out of episodes are The Queen and Gomora.
Today, Briefly.co.za reported that The Queen has begun filming new episodes.
Lesedi Matsunyane, Connie Ferguson's daughter, shared a video on social media of the crew and cast members on set.
The show had been on a five-week break due to Covid-19 lockdown regulations.
It's not clear when Gomora will be back on air.
Last week, Briefly.co.za reported that it had surpassed The Queen as Mzansi's most-watched soapie on DStv.
Gomora, which stars Katlego Danke, Zolisa Xaluva and Thembi Seete, peaked at 2.5 million views before being taken off the air due to running out of episodes.
