Percy Tau turns 26: 6 fabulous facts about him on his birthday

Percy Tau has joined South African footballing royalty during the last two seasons following his exploits in Europe.

The Bafana Bafana talisman celebrates his 26th birthday on Wednesday and Briefly.co.za hopes to add to the festivities.

As Briefly.co.za previously reported, Tau has received high praise from the likes of Benni McCarthy and Teko Modise.

The forward grew up in a mining town in Witbank and used football to support his family and escape poverty.

Ahead of his move to English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, Tau was named the South African footballer of the year in 2018.

Many fans are aware that he boasts a B.com degree from UNISA, but he earned it by studying while travelling to and from matches.

Tau joined an elite club of local footballers to feature in the UEFA Champions League, but his inclusion was very fortunate.

His club side Brighton have no aspirations of qualifying for Europe's premier club competition, but he was loaned to Belgian side Club Brugge, due to work permit issues. This opened the door and Tau has been making the most of the opportunity.

Previously, Briefly.co.za reported that Tau previously played with Thibault Peyre at Royal Union Saint-Gilloise in the Belgian second division last season.

Peyre revealed how impressed Tau's former teammates were with him as he remained humble, despite earning up to 7 times their salary.
