On Monday, a video was shared South Africa Live's Facebook page showing two men robbing a truck while driving on the highway.
The clip was filmed by someone in a vehicle driving behind the truck and it shows one of the thieves dumping the cargo on the ground for the other to carry away.
The video gathered over 58 000 views in just a couple of days and South Africans were divided on their views.
Some were enraged, some believed the truck drivers were in on it, and others said people were doing whatever it takes to survive.
Peter Rowley commented:
"Funny how the truck is driving so slowly, I wonder if the driver is involved."
Kenny Andile Khumalo wrote:
"Desperate times guys, let's blame coronavirus."
Raymond Vishal Ramnarain said:
"This is where the police are meant to be, not at the beach so-called looking for joggers to lock up."
Gary Smith added:
"Shame man, they must be really hungry wanting to eat a freaking tarpaulin."

It is not the first act of crime in lockdown that has been caught on video. Briefly.co.za previously reported on a video on Facebook showing a group of locals in Langa, Cape Town, looting a bottle store.
The clip managed to get over 194 000 views in just 21 hours and South Africans were shocked and disgusted by the behaviour.
