Lucky Saffa bags nearly R17 million lottery jackpot with R20 ticket

On Friday, lottery operator Ithuba revealed an online Lotto player has bagged an impressive R16 826 525.

The unidentified winner purchased several Lotto tickets on 16 May and a R20 quick-pick ticket proved to be the lucky one.

The Sowetan reported Ithuba said:

“The Lotto winner bagged an impressive R16 826 525, one of the biggest Lotto jackpots for 2020. The player used the national lottery website to play the winning numbers 08, 10, 15, 27, 30, 49 and bonus number 06. The winner played two tickets on the day, one for R40 using the manual selection method and another for R20 to play the quick-pick method, which was the winning ticket."

Taking to Twitter, the SA lottery shared the lucky winners for the 16 May draw, which included the jackpot winner.

South Africans congratulated the lucky winner and many wished it was them who had become a multi-millionaire.

Some social media users were even a bit jealous.

Twitter user, @Teeekkaayy, commented:

"Can't wait for my R50 to be deposited into my account."

Another tweep, @See_Khoo, added:

"Lmao this country must have the luckiest people ever because it's like every week we got a winner."

The winner will only be allowed to collect his (or her) winnings after the lockdown ends. The person joins other millionaires who have won during the coronavirus lockdown but are yet to claim their money. previously reported two Gauteng residents will be smiling all the way to the bank. Ithuba has confirmed that the two have won a combined total in excess of R16 million.

The National Lottery operator will be paying R10 546 013.80 to the first winner and R6 304 858.80 to the second.
