Kobe Bryant's wife Vanessa Bryant has aired her views following the death of George Floyd that has sparked violent protests around the US.

Floyd died in hospital after a white Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck during his arrest.

The 37-year-old widow took to social media at the weekend and posted an old photo of Kobe wearing a T-shirt that read, "I can'r breathe".

The mailonline reports that those words were the exact same words spoken by Floyd before his tragic passing.

The former NBA player wore the T-shirt in 2014 ahead of the Lakers game against the Sacramento Kings, to protest the death of Eric Garner.

Eric, a black man killed by the police in New York City, muttered the words, 'I can't breathe,' after the officer placed him in a choke hold, according to the mailonline.

Vanessa captioned her post:

"My husband wore this shirt years ago and yet here we are again."

She also encouraged US citizens to share and embrace the "beautiful qualities and similarities" that all people have.

"Life is too short. Let's share and embrace the beautiful qualities and similarities we all share as people. Drive out hate. Teach respect and love for all at home and school. Spread love. Fight for change- register to vote. Do not use innocent lives lost as an excuse to loot. Be an example of the change we want to see."

Vanessa's husband passed away in a fatal helicopter accident in California on 26 January. South African celebs were left heartbroken after his death.

Briefly.co.za has reported that Grammy-winner Justin Timberlake has joined other celebrities who're supporting Floyd's protests. Actors Steve Carell and Seth Rogen are among others who have donated to the cause.
