Police officers risk their lives on a daily basis to protect and serve law-abiding citizens.
Although many cops have a bad name due to the misdemeanours of a few bad apples, one cannot forget the sacrifice that they make on a daily basis.
Officer Samuel Willie Bester had been serving the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JPMD) for 24 years, after joining in 1996.
He tragically lost his life recently, but his colleagues ensured that he was not forgotten.
Senior leaders and officers within the department united to pay tribute to the long-serving hero at his home.
The top cops paid their respects to Bester's family and arranged a special salute and motorcade in his honour.
The touching moment was shared by the JMPD via their Twitter account by way of a few video clips and images.
The tweets can be viewed below.
Briefly.co.za noted some of the heartwarming feedback from social media users.
Sehloho Mokokolisi (@8Letgo) said,
"May his soul rest in peace."
Matlho Mane (@patoninxs) added,
MILITARY MINDS (@omoalusi) shared his perspective:
"Why people hate police so much? It hurts me every time when I leave my kids especially doing night shift to go serve and protect the same people who don't appreciate my service."
Ironically, Briefly.co.za earlier reported that a video has surfaced of an allegedly drunk police officer stumbling along a street.
It is not clear if he is on duty, but he is in uniform and it caused a stir via social media.
