Ramaphosa relaxes Level 3 restrictions: Restaurants, cinemas open

- President Cyril Ramaphosa has addressed SA on the path forward amid the Covid-19 pandemic

- Ramaphosa announced a number of changes to the current lockdown regulations

- This includes the opening of restaurants, cinemas, casinos and even some sports

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced the migration to a more relaxed Level 3 lockdown on Wednesday evening.

Reminding citizens of their own personal duty to limit the spread of the virus, urging everyone to continue practising social distancing, hand washing and using a cloth mask in public spaces.

Ramaphosa warned that the battle against the virus is still in the early stages, with the worst still to come:

"Even after 100 days, we are still near the beginning of this epidemic and it will remain with us for many more months, possibly years. The task of dealing with the coronavirus pandemic is a marathon and not a sprint, and we have therefore shaped our response according to that reality."

Cabinet has decided to ease restrictions on restaurants for sit-down meals, accommodation facilities, conference facilities, cinemas and theatres, casinos, personal care services (including hairdressers and beauty services), non-contact sports, contact sports (but only for training).

Ramaphosa highlighted the importance of opening up a sector that predominately employees and provides income to women.

The President said that opening this sector would give women the ability to become economically independent at a time where a 'war' was being waged against female citizens.

Briefly.co.za reported that Ramaphosa had previously called upon young men to stand against gender-based violence in South Africa, to lead the resistance against what the President has dubbed another pandemic.
