- South Africans have been sharing photos of mother and daughter in the new The oven - The Bun challenge
- Alluding to the challenge, a young lady shared a tragic collage featuring herself and her child who passed away at just eight years of age
- Her post went viral and left many in tears
Earlier Briefly.co.za reported that a new challenge is sweeping across social media, The Oven - The Bun challenge, in which users post a pic of moms and daughters.
One particular post has gotten South Africans scratching their heads. A mom and daughter, who share a remarkable resemblance, have sparked speculation that they are sisters and not mom and daughter.
Twitter user Boni Simelane (@Boni_lioness) also participated in the challenge, but hers was a tragic entry.
She shared a collage which featured herself, but the other image was that of the tombstone of her late child.
Lwandle passed away at the tender age of eight in 2018.
Although some time has passed, the memories are still as fresh as ever for Boni. However, she revealed that the overwhelmingly positive response to her tweet has lifted her spirits:
"Thank you all for the heart warming messages. It’s still hurts like it was yesterday but we learn to live with the pain. The love from these streets is overwhelming, people do care..And definitely my Oven is Blessed and I have a little Bun always looking over me."
Boni's tweet can be viewed below.
Briefly.co.za noted some of the comments, as nearly 25 000 likes have already been achieved since Wednesday.
Cookie (@Karabo_Theks) said,
"No one deserves to go through this pain. NO ONE. Askies Boni."
Xosima (@Xosima) added,
"His still your bun. You made him proud by celebrating him in this challenge. You're an inspiration gal."
