On 18th June 2020, the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg found Thulani Ngcobo guilty of culpable homicide. However, Judge J. Du Plessis, who was declaring his judgement on the matter, stated that he could not rule out that Thulani had intentionally killed his wife on the day of the incident since both of them were heavily intoxicated. The judge stated that he had negligently caused the death of his wife when he pushed her against a wall.

The body of the deceased was found on 31st December 2018, and the cause of death was ruled out to be blunt force trauma to her head. Thulani had initially confessed to having committed the crime, although he stated that he was not aware that his actions could have caused the death of his wife. The confession was treated as evidence in the case.

Even though Ngcobo was facing two charges, premeditated murder and defeating the ends of justice. Judge Du Plessis stated that the accused committed the crime out of anger and did not intend to murder his wife. As a result, he was relieved of the second charge, defeating the ends of justice. The judge wound up the court hearing by saying:

The accused is therefore found guilty of culpable homicide and not murder. He is found not guilty on count 2.

Pitch Black Afro court sentence

On 19th June 2020, Ngcobo was presented before the court for his judgement to be delivered. While delivering his judgement on the case, Judge Du Plessis stated that the accused was not remorseful for his actions even though the court had found evidence to show that the murder was unintentional. The judge also considered the arguments presented by the prosecutor and the accused's representative to rule out the sentence. Thulani Ngcobo will serve ten years imprisonment with a five year suspended sentence.
