Christo van der Rheede posted an inspirational story on the #ImStaying group on Facebook. The post reveals that a group of farmers and farmworkers have helped a community in the Western Cape with a huge donation of fruit and vegetables as well as non-perishable products.
The products were sourced from Agri SA, Laastedrift Boerdery, Yara fertilizers and a team of dedicated farmworkers.
Briefly.co.za learned that communities across South Africa have been the fortunate recipients of generous farmers who have stepped up to aid communities during the lockdown.
Here is Christo's post:
"South Africa’s farmers and farm workers continue to serve communities in need. Goedverwacht and Wittewater in the Western Cape benefitted from a huge donation of fruit, vegetables and non-perishable products from Agri SA, Laastedrift Boerdery, Yara fertlizers and a team of dedicated farmworkers. Communities in the Northern Cape, Gauteng, Limpopo, Eastern Cape, Western Cape and KZN say thank you to our farmers and farm workers! You rock!"
This is what South Africa had to say about the generous donation:
Livvy Simpson: "All the more reason these amazing providers should receive protection from senseless murders by government legislation."
Shirley Ann Doran: "How amazing are South Africans, all helping each other through this "
Linda Dillon: "In our area in the Southern Berg our farmers have helped massively donating food and time to assist those in need. Thank you to all farmers and farmworkers. We really appreciate the work you do."
Thelma Gomes: "May God always keep the farmers and their families safe, farmer's lives matter, they are the ones who feed the world, God take care of our farmer's Amen"
Rodney Maggott: "Farmers are a different breed of people they are never selfish and are always thinking about how do we get foods to grow. They should be protected and respected specifically in South Africa. No farmers no food."
