IFP MP Mangosuthu Buthelezi has recovered from Covid-19, his family confirmed in a statement on Thursday, 20 August.
The 91-year-old leader received a negative test result on Thursday, family spokesperson Bhekuyise Buthelezi said. The politician has recovered just in time for his 92nd birthday celebration on 27 August.
Briefly.co.za reported that Buthelezi tested positive on 8 August. He has been in self-isolation ever since. He revealed that he was asymptomatic when he tested positive. He remained showed no signs of the virus until his recovery.
"We, the family of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, are pleased to confirm that uMntwana wa KwaPhindangene has completed the mandatory period of self-isolation after being diagnosed positive for Covid-19 on August 8."
The family spokesman said Buthelezi's full medical tests have provided them with complete assurance that he is in good health.

In other news, Briefly.co.za reported that Muvhango actor Maxwell Dichi has opened up about his journey to recovery after testing positive for Covid-19 a while ago.
The star recently shared that he has recovered from the virus. Maxwell, who plays the character of lawyer Seretse on the telenovela, has thanked health workers, God and the government of Botswana for his recovery. He posted on Instagram:
"I've recovered from Covid. I thank God, health workers, and the government of Botswana for taking care of me and for protecting my family while I was in quarantine. My granny always taught me to make the bed and pray."
The actor took to Instagram Live to share more details about his recovery journey. He revealed that he a lot exercised while he was in isolation in hospital.
