SPHEctacula and DJ Naves have teamed up as the Kings of The Weekend to release a spiritual track called Thelumoya. The track features the Jaziel Brothers and Cassper Nyovest.
The track was released on Monday, 24 August and is sure to be the banger Mzansi deserves. SPHEctacula and DJ Naves are DJs, recording artists, drive-time radio presenters and entrepreneurs who have been dominating South African airwaves for the past 10 years.
Speaking to Briefly.co.za, the Kings of The Weekend opened up about what inspired them to venture into gospel music.
"We believe that in order to stay relevant you have to evolve as an artist and make music that is relevant to the times and most of all is inspirational. Given what we are currently going through worldwide, we think everyone needs a pick-me-up."
The artists went on to say that they do not want to box themselves into a specific genre.
"We would not say this is the direction our sound is taking, but more of a reflection of how diverse we are as artists. The Jaziel Brothers were the perfect duo to partner with on this as they have dabbled into gospel music before and are amazing vocalists."
When asked if either of them have a strong church background, they laughed and said:
"Sphe’s father was very religious so he is continuing his legacy. Naves is spiritual so this was the perfect song to reflect that."
Speaking on how Covid-19 has impacted them as artists, the duo said:
"We are very lucky to be living in a time where digital is king. Everyone is now online, even though we will now see more events being hosted and artists getting booked for events, there will still be a lot of digital push in terms of concerts etc. Even beyond the pandemic, we believe people will still have a huge focus on online."
The Jaziel Brothers also weighed in on the topic, saying:
"Change makes us nervous, but it makes us work even harder to adapt and ensure that we move with the times. This current pandemic is challenge for the entertainment industry but we believe we will adapt to it and we will keep on surviving. As artists, a lot is thrown our way but it is just a matter of not being rigid, rather agile."
Briefly.co.za previously reported that Cassper Nyovest and Zola 7 recently smacked Mzansi with a new track to kick off the weekend feels. Fans cannot believe the litness that these two musical magicians have created.
The next couple of months leading up to the festive season will see many new tracks dropping with each of them hoping to be the track that fuels the Dezemba feels.
The coronavirus might have had us feeling some type of way but nothing will stop the people of Mzansi from getting festive, especially with such a soulful jam.
