David Tembe has been appointed as the new metro chief of Johannesburg. The ANC slammed the process and claimed that the correct procedures had been flouted.
Tembe was the 5th on the list of preferred candidates, which ANC regional spokesperson Jolidee Matongo claimed was irregular and bizarre to pass the other candidates over.
Briefly discovered that number one on the list was General Eric Gela whom the ANC supported as the new police chief.
“How do you not appoint four other candidates who are higher on the list? This is a blatant undermining of the appointment process,” Matongo claimed according to salabournews.co.za.
When Tembe was was appointed the executive mayor of Joburg praised the new chief's experience in traffic law enforcement.
The council argued that Gela did not have the requisite experience in traffic and by-law enforcement. The ANC said that this still didn't explain why the other candidates were overlooked.
