World superstar Beyoncé is celebrating her 39th birthday today. The hashtag #BeyDay is trending as thousands of the songstress'fans have taken to Twitter to wish her a happy birthday. The successful musician's fans have been sharing her pics and videos on the micro-blogging app since Friday morning.

The US singer, songwriter, dancer and filmmaker was born on 4 September, 1981 in Houston, Texas. She shot to fame in the late '90s as the lead singer of hit group Destiny's Child.
Before that, Bey had performed at various singing and dancing competitions. Briefly.co.za takes a look at five interesting and cool facts since it is the stunner's special day.
1. Debut album as solo artist
She dropped Dangerously In Love in 2003. The album featured four Billboard Hot 100 top five songs, including number one singles Crazy In Love featuring Jay-Z and Baby Boy, which featured Sean Paul.
2. Theatrical film debut
During her hit group Destiny's Child's break from the music industry, Beyoncé made her theatrical film debut in 2002 with a role in the US box office number one, Austin Powers in Goldmember. From there, she never looked back. She has acted in different epic movies including Obsessed and The Fighting Temptations.
3. Grammy Awards history
The star is the most nominated woman in the Grammy Awards' history and has the second-most wins for a woman with a total of 24. She is also the most-awarded artist at the MTV Video Music Awards with 24 wins, including the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
4. 2020 projects
The talented artist has dropped Black Is King, a visual album based on the music of The Lion King: The Gift. It premiered globally on Disney+ on July 31, 2020. The film was written, directed and executive produced by Beyoncé. It was described by Disney as "a celebratory memoir for the world on the black experience".
The talented singer married her hubby Jay-Z on April 4, 2008. Beyoncé started a relationship with Jay-Z after their collaboration on a song titled Bonnie & Clyde. It was featured on Jay-Z's seventh album, The Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse. Beyoncé appeared as Jay-Z's girlfriend in the music video for the song. They have three children together named Blue Ivy, Sir and Rumi Carter.
