- Messi has promised to help people with similar conditions with touching gestures
Lionel Messi appears to have moved on from his transfer saga with Barcelona after gifting a visually-impaired young Arsenal fan a pair of high-tech R90 glasses.
The 33-year-old Argentine superstar shows he has more to offer on the pitch as well as off it after teaming up with Israeli company OrCam to help visually-impaired people around the world.
Reports reveal that the tech company has developed the MyEye device to help people with the condition read texts and identify faces.
SunSport reports that the six-time Ballon d'Or winner has now decided to gift young people with inspirational stories the R90k device annually.
The publication added that some of the lucky kids will have a chance to meet the Argentine superstar.
10-year-old Gunners fan Mikey from Enfield is the latest to receive the life-changing R90 897 gadget.
SunSport reveals that no fewer than 12 visually-impaired people had received the device before the outbreak of deadly coronavirus.
While sharing the philosophy behind his gesture, Messi spoke about the effect that hearing people's stories has had on him. He said:
"The emotion was incredible. Meeting with this amazing group of people from around the world was truly a magical and inspiring moment. Witnessing each of the members of the "Dream Team" trying out the OrCam MyEye features, it was clear that this would be a life-changing device for each of them."
"I am proud to be an OrCam Ambassador to truly make a difference for so many."
Briefly.co.za previously reported that BI Phakathi has quickly become a faceless hero here in South Africa. When he is not blessing homeless children and giving old ladies money for groceries, he is putting a smile on thousands of South Africans' faces who thoroughly enjoy watching him make a difference.
In his latest act of kindness, BI shared a video in which a homeless man can be seen eating food from a busy street floor. The man behind the camera, who we have come to know as BI, approaches the homeless man to ask him if he would like to go and buy food.
The two then enter a local restaurant where the staff try and chase the homeless man away. BI quickly explains that the two of them are together. Once seated, the old man can be seen enjoying his meal while he and BI have a light-hearted conversation, during which BI tells the man he is his new family.
This is after the man, whose last name is Govender, explains that he lost contact with his family after a lot of "family disputes". After their brief conversation, BI proceeds to hand the man an undisclosed amount of money. The touching video was at the receiving end of nearly 27 000 reactions from fans of BI who seem to find joy in watching the man do his bit to change the world, one good deed at a time.
