The Premier Soccer League games officially have a new sponsor - DStv. The satellite TV service owned by Multichoice will be replacing Absa, reported Irvin Khoza, the chairman of the PSL, on Thursday evening.
“The PSL announces that DStv is now the official sponsor of the PSL,” Khoza said in a press conference .
It’s a synergy that is powerful in what it brings to the supporters in that it the PSL continues to innovate and improve its products, which will have the full backing of DStv, whose offering requires an abundance of local content." he said.
ABSA announced at the end of the last season that it was the end of their partnership with the PSL after 13 seasons. Khoza also mentioned during the conference which was simultaneously broadcasted on two DStv SuperSport channels, that the Premiership will now be called the DStv Premiership.
Meanwhile, Twitter users shared their thoughts on the announcement.
"How is this gonna work? Will watching soccer (PSL) be for ONLY those with DStv? Please explain this in layman’s terms."
"This makes me sad. My favourite league moves to DStv where most among us cannot watch?"
"They don’t have a choice! What a flex by DStv."
The PSL official Twitter page also tweeted that there would be another press conference on Wednesday next week. They have not left any hints about what the conference will be about. Some more big changes perhaps.
Briefly.co.za previously reported Kaizer Chiefs have shown off their new kits on Twitter recently. The soccer team collaborated with world-renowned brand - Nike. Last week the kits were leaked on social media but the colours have now been confirmed for the 2020/21 season.
This is not the first change Chiefs have made, most recently they announced Gavin Hunt as head coach. They really seem to be pushing for a new beginning. They captioned the images of the new home and away kits:
"The new 2020/21 kits. Allow the spirit of the lion to awaken in you with our new home jersey. Let us also walk into the future with our electric blue away jersey."
Many of the teams' fans shared various mixed reactions beneath the Twitter post.
