After much mockery and taunting of the new kit, Orlando Pirates FC has sold out the new orange away jersey. The jersey has been compared to items such as Boxer tobacco, but that didn't stop die-hard fans from purchasing it.
According to a tweet by @orlandopirates, the jersey sold out online on Tuesday but was fortunately restocked yesterday. The Buccaneers collaborated with Adidas on this new kit and released it on Tuesday morning.
The going price for the jersey is R799 and more are due to go on sale on 8 October. After all the flack the design team received for the new kit, it's quite a surprise that the bright orange jersey sold out in a matter of hours.
Pirates confirmed that they'd been sold out through a tweet:
This good news did not stop Saffa tweeps from complaining and making more odd comparisons:
"You should take us seriously... What happened to the white colour? Please when you think of releasing a new kit please think of us, the supporters. Cos it is us who are being laughed at in the streets."
"Are we now the Dutch Army? Nice though looks impressive."
Previously, Briefly.co.za reported on Saffa fans' reactions to the unveiling of Orlando Pirates new kits. Orlando Pirates FC has taken to social media to unveil their new home and away kits. The soccer team collaborated with the world-renowned brand, Adidas to show off an all-new kit and badge.
The team unveiled the new kits early this morning after previously promoting the release on social media. According to the club's website, the biggest change is the replacement of the traditional badge with a skull and crossbones.
The kits left behind some tradition for the 2020/21 season as both jerseys received a more modern update. The bright orange of the away kit is a bold move by the Buccaneers and fans have taken to social media to liken it to a few peculiar things.
