Mariah Carey has opened up about a whole lot and has left fans shocked at the revelations.

Mariah Carey's new book, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, is a memoir that the singer herself has been teasing for years. The vocal talent always maintained that she was a writer, and is clearly a businesswoman too as she timed the book release to perfectly coincide with her Rarities compilation which is out October 2nd.

Mariah is no stranger to controversy but the new book mentioned incidents with her brother, sister and mother.

The most shocking is of Mariah's elder sister, Alison. The pair are now estranged but Mariah alleges in her book that Alison mistreated her when she was a girl. She claims Alison offered her drugs on multiple occasions and offered to sell her to a pimp. Mariah also claimed that she accepted a Valium pill from her sister at just 12 years old and on another occasion that one of Alison's boyfriends forcibly kissed her.

The final straw for the singer was when Alison purposefully scalded her with boiling hot tea. Mariah ended up in the hospital with third-degree burns but says she now calls Alison her "ex-sister." Vulture.com quoted the passage saying Alison "... burned my back and now my trust."

Mariah also writes of her mother and brother being present at her 'Glitter' breakdown.

She details how she needed a break between shooting music videos and that her brother, Morgan, was sent to fetch her. The pair ended up at Mariah's mother's house where Mariah says the police were called. What followed was a series of check-ins to different mental health institutions and rehab centres. Mariah alleges that all of her hospitalisations were part of an elaborate plot for others to gain control and become "executors of my affairs".

She calls Morgan her ex-brother and her mother by her first name, Pat. Mariah writes in the book:

"I have no doubt it is emotionally and physically safer for me not to have any contact with my ex-brother and ex-sister"

It's clear that Mariah has established boundaries necessary for her success, gained control of her life and career and is finally able to use this book to tell her side of the story of her life.

In other International celebrity-related news, Briefly.co.za recently reported on Trevor Noah celebrating five years as host of The Daily Show.

South African comedian took to Instagram to post two pictures of him hosting, one of when he first started at the studio in New York and another from his apartment from more recently. He expressed gratitude in his caption as he thanked people who had been with him since he started this part of his career.

The Daily Show's comedic political commentary is very in line with the stand-up routines that Mzansi was used to him doing before he moved over to the United States. Trevor's bits were always topical and his imitations of political figures had fans in hysterics.
