SABC denies ending 'Muvhango', signs contract for another season

The SABC has denied that it is ending Muvhango. Acting SABC spokesperson Mmoni Seapolelo has dismissed reports that they are planning to pull the plug on the popular soapie if its ratings don't improve.

Viewers of the telenovela got worried when weekend news reports suggested that the national broadcaster was planning to end the SABC2 programme. The reports sent tweeps into a frenzy on social media. Some peeps called for the show to be canned while others, who watch it, want it to continue.

The SABC has in fact expressed that it has signed a new contract with Muvhango to air for another season. According to a statement provided to TshisaLIVE, Seapolelo dismissed the rumours that the telenovela would be canned.

"All SABC programmes are subjected to evaluation based on a number of factors, including audience ratings, associated costs and relevance to the market. To this effect, the SABC is pleased to have signed a new contract for Muvhango for another season. Our viewers can look forward to watching their favourite programme on SABC2."
