American actor Matthew Paige Damon is celebrating his 50th birthday today. Damon was born on 8 October, 1970 and has made his mark internationally as an actor, producer and screenwriter.

Turning 50 is a big deal and Damon has a lot to show for his years on earth. The iconic actor has proven his skills time and time again and that is why he is one of the most sought-after actors in the world.
From Good Will Hunting to the Ocean movies, Damon is known far and wide for many iconic movie roles. Damon has been labelled as one of the highest-earning actors of all times with him having raked in an impressive $3.12 billion at the North American box office, as reported by Forbes.
In celebration of Damon’s 50th birthday, we look at just five of the most iconic movie roles that he has played over the years:
1. Good Will Hunting
This movie was released in 1997 and was a huge success. Damon portrayal of the immature orphan genius, Will Hunting, was a role that will not easily be forgotten.
2. The Talented Mr. Ripley
Damon played the lead role of Ripley, a psychopathic con-artist who kills a rich and spoiled millionaire playboy named Dickie Greenleaf and steals his identity. This role proved Damon’s acting magnificence.
3. The Bourne Trilogy
The three Bourne movies, which kicked off with 2002’s The Bourne Identity, showed Damon playing a hero who stopped at nothing. A different side to what we normally saw of the talented actor but he was definitely the key to this trilogy’s great success.
Damon played a grieving father who was struggling to protect his surviving daughter against the viral outbreak. This is a movie that has hit home hard in 2020 as a result of the coronavirus.
5. The Martian
A movie that got a lot of mixed reviews but yet another role Damon dominated. Damon played Mark Watney, an astronaut who is left on Mars and presumed dead after a fierce storm. Getting into character for this role was not as easy as it looked.
Social media has been buzzing with wishes for Damon, showing just what a huge impact he has made on an international level with his endless and undeniably genius roles.

Briefly.co.za previously reported that Matt Damon opened up about living the coronavirus pandemic in a seaside town in Ireland. The international star recently spoke to Dublin radio station’s Graham O’Toole and Nathan O’Reilly of Spin 1038 radio.
Matt has been FaceTiming a lot with his pal Bono whilst chilling with his little fam in Dalkey, southeast of Dublin. Matt arrived in Dalkey in March with his wife and three youngest daughters to shoot scenes for The Last Duel - a medieval drama directed by Ridley Scott.
