Tory Lanez has been officially charged with the shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion, during an argument that transpired back in July.
Lanez is due to be arraigned next week on two felony charges that will be brought by the Los Angeles prosecutor's office.
The two felony charges are assault with a firearm and carrying an unregistered and loaded firearm in a vehicle. The complaint states Lanez “inflicted great bodily injury” on Megan Thee Stallion once she had exited an SUV.
Lanez is 27 years old, he's a Canadian rapper and singer whose real name is Daystar Peterson. If he does get convicted, he will be faced with a maximum sentence of about 23 years. He was arrested on the night the shooting occurred but released subsequent to posting bail.
Megan Thee Stallion, whose legal name is Megan Pete, is identified as Megan P in the case. Initially she had declined to point the finger at Lanez, but later posted an Instagram video that Tory had shot her and indicated that had caused the incident and asked for him to stop lying about it.
In other rapper-related news, Briefly.co.za recently reported on Kendrick Lamar leaving his record label to start an entirely new one.
Kendrick Lamar, world-famous American rapper, has reportedly left his record label with hopes of starting his own one. The artist was signed to Top Dog Entertainment but a rumour was leaked online that the rapper had left in order to start his own label and call it pgLang. Kendrick is credited with rights on the website for pgLang but the online rumours about the real reason Kendrick Lamar left have had the internet buzzing.
pgLang is self-described as being a collective of multilingual creatives who will tell stories through music, TV, film and books. The label is also set to include Baby Keem, Murder District and Jorja Smith. Kendrick Lamar left Top Dog and took collaborator Dave Free with him. The company was registered in March 2020 but the internet's rumour mill is churning about who and what they will sign next.
TDE's president took to social media to cryptically address the rumours but only said that they travel faster than the truth. This did nothing to quash the chatter happening on the internet, with many tweeps speculating that there was more going on behind the scenes that would have pushed Lamar to the edge.
