- Reeva Steenkamp was murdered in 2013 and Pistorius was imprisoned and is now serving 13 years and five months
- Bill Schroder, a close-friend of Pistorius', claims that the Paralympian cares more about forgiveness from the Steenkamps than getting out on parole
Oscar Pistorius has reportedly asked the family of Reeva Steenkamp to forgive him for murdering the model. The 33-year-old blade runner was accused of shooting Steenkamp four times through a door on 14 February, 2013. He was sentenced to 15 years behind bars.
After an appeal, Pistorius is now serving 13 years and five months out of the initial sentencing. He claimed to have unknowingly opened fire on Steenkamp, who he said he believed was an intruder in the bathroom.
Pistorius shot and killed the model but maintains that her death was an accident. Steenkamp was 29 at the time and died at the scene.
Bill Schroder, a close-friend of Pistorius', reportedly told The Sun that Pistorius desperately wanted the Steenkamps forgiveness. Schroder also said that Pistorius is more concerned about forgiveness than getting out on parole.
According to The Witness, Schroder said the former Paralympian has given up exercise, grown a beard and recently turned to God. The report also said that Reeva's mother had forgiven Pistorius in 2018 but still wants him to be punished.
These are some of the responses from Saffa tweeps to the article by The Witness:
"Forgive him for lying? He shot Reeva behind a locked bathroom and Oscar said he was thinking it was an intruder. Sies he must rot in jail this one."
"But he said he didn’t kill her so forgiveness for what?"
"Tell them about what really happened that day. The truth will set you free and it might help them and you heal."
