Dire Tladi appointed SARChI Chair for International Constitutional Law
- Professor Dire Tladi of University of Pretoria has been appointed as National Research Foundation South African Research Chair Initiative and Chair for International Constitutional Law
- He will be in the position on a five-year-long contract

Professor Dire Tladi of the University of Pretoria’s (UP) Department of Public Law and Fellow at the Institute for International and Comparative Law in Africa has been appointed as the National Research Foundation's (NRF) South African Research Initiative (SARChI) Chair for International Constitutional Law as from 2021. Prof Tladi's appointment is for a five-year term.
The SARChI is an initiative started by the South African government to ensure a continuous and ever-growing research base in the country that will keep South Africa internationally competitive in the field of the global knowledge economy.
Some of the objectives of the SARChI include increasing the number of world-class researchers in South Africa, improve the quality of training of highly-qualified South African researchers and creating effective research career pathways for young South Africans who would like to enter the field of research.
Upon hearing the news about Professor Dire Tladi, Dean Professor Elsabe Schoeman of the Pretoria University had this to say:
"Well done, Dire! Once again, thank you for keeping UP Law on the global map where it belongs,” she said.

It should be noted that the studio falls under the NBC Universal, a world-leading media and entertainment group of companies that cover vast TV interests for the world audience. It was reported that Pearlena made history with the appointment as she became the first black woman to hold such a significant position.
A press statement by the group said that she would be leading the company’s international television businesses and will be giving reports to Jeff Shell, the CEO of NBC Universal. Igbokwe was born in Lagos in the 1960s during the infamous Nigerian Civil War. She migrated to the US at the age of six and later got her first degree from Yale University before getting her MBA from Columbia University.
