Sdumo Mtshali is reportedly leaving theTV show Isibaya and on his way to a new SABC 3 show. The star, who played the character of Sbu Ndlovu on the show, is allegedly planning to leave the telenovela. Mtshali was one of the first characters cast on the 2013 project, but news of declining ratings has many thinking the show has run its course.
Mtshali is said to be joining Zamani Mbatha in his new acting pursuit. Zamani is the real-life brother of star Nomzamo Mbatha, who played Mtshali's late love interest on Isibaya. The show will be aired on SABC 3 and is to be called The Estate.
The news of another cast member leaving will not do much to help the show's declining viewership. Online rumours have speculated that ratings have been slipping since fan-favourites have left the show.
Celebrity and entertainment commentator Phil Mphela was quoted by ZAlebs.com as saying:
"Word is, the Mzansi Magic show’s fate is in limbo. Sources tell me that the show is on the brink and barring any change in fortunes it will be cancelled. The show’s cancellation has been the murmur since early this year"
In other Isibaya-related news of stars leaving the show, Briefly.co.za reported on Muzi Mthabela quashing rumours that he was leaving the show in order to play Shaka Zulu.
Muzi Mthabela has denied rumours that he has been picked to play Shaka in the upcoming Bomb Shelter production, Shaka Illembe. The star told TshisaLIVE that no such discussion has taken place between him and the production house. He said:
“There is absolutely no truth that I am going to play Shaka Zulu. As far as I know, Bomb Shelter haven't cast for the show. We have never talked about me playing Shaka. Nothing is confirmed and I don't have any offers."
Muzi revealed that he's actually leaving Isibaya because an opportunity to play a lead role in another show opened up for him:
"I never really wanted to leave the show but a good opportunity came in the form of another show to play the lead, a very good character. It is a very good move for me as an artist. It is important to be able to do other shows so you can grow."
