Ed Sheeran, international singing sensation and new dad, has donated R4.2 million to his old high school. The Daily Mail reported that Sheeran had donated the amount, which is £200 000 in pounds Stirling, for the school to use to improve equipment in the arts, music and science departments.
Sheeran is married to Cherry Seaborn, whom he met at Thomas Mills. The two attended the high school and reconnected later in life, with Sheeran maintaining he always had a crush on his future bride.
The high school's Director of Music and Head of Arts made a statement that expressed gratitude on behalf of the institution as well as how the money would be setting the school apart in the arts programmes that they are now able to offer.
Cherry Seaborn attended university in both the UK and the US where she got degrees in molecular biology and business studies. Ed and Cherry reconnected around 2015 and, after dating for four years, reportedly tied the knot last year. The couple kept the news private, as they do with most of their personal life events.
In previous Ed Sheeran-related news, Briefly.co.za recently reported on him and Cherry announcing the birth of their first baby together.
Shape Of You hitmaker Ed Sheeran is the new celebrity dad in town. The musician's wife, Cherry Seaborn, welcomed a bouncing baby girl in late August but the couple remained mum about the good news.
The announcement was first made public by Sheeran through his official Instagram account about a week after the delivery. In a long post, an excited Sheeran disclosed he was over the moon, together with his wife.
Sheeran confirmed they had named their newborn Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.
''Ello! A quick message from me as I have some personal news that I wanted to share with you... Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter - Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran. We are completely in love with her. Both mum and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine over here.'' he wrote.
He thanked the team that helped his wife deliver and also noted that they now needed privacy and that fans should humbly accord them the same. ''We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time. Lots of love and I’ll see you when it’s time to come back, Ed x,'' he added. Following his post, his fans and other social media users thronged the comments section to congratulate the couple for their blessing.
