The Democratic Alliance's Mbali Ntuli showed great sportsmanship after she tweeted a congratulatory message to new DA Federal Leader John Steenhuisen. Steenhuisen and Ntuli recently went head to head for the position.
Ntuli is the DA's KwaZulu-Natal legislature member. She says in her tweet that she is proud of the DA. She ended the post with:
"Now we get to the real work of making sure SA is a prosperous country for us all."
South African Twitter users took to Ntuli's replies section to share their thoughts on her and Steenhuisen.
Take a look at Ntuli's tweet below:
Here's what some Saffa tweeps had to say to Ntuli:
"They don’t deserve you."
"2024 you stand as an independent MP. You'll get the votes."
@galbertyn responded with:
"You ran a good campaign Mbali, this is the DA's loss, not yours."
"Well done Mbali, we fully support and we are with you, and congratulations to John Steenhuisen!"
Briefly.co.za previously reported that Steenhuisen has become the new leader of the DA. He had been serving as interim leader since the former leader Mmusi Maimane stepped down. Steenhuisen was running against the former DA youth leader Mbali Ntuli, who was seen as the underdog in the race.
He promised to take to party to new heights and that the days of the party being rudderless are over as he vowed to steer the party in a clear direction. He thanked the party and those who voted for him for their support. The DA confirmed Steenhuisen's new position in a tweet:
"BREAKING. The newly-elected Federal Leader of the DA is John Steenhuisen. Together, we can build an open opportunity society for all. The work to bring real hope, real change, now begins."
